sparqs is committed to helping students to shape the nature of their learning and contribute to the overall success of learning provision, regardless of wherever and however they learn.
While we try to ensure that all of our work and support offers equality of opportunity, we also undertake specific projects with an equality and diversity focus, in line with student need and sectoral policy and practice.
Originally working jointly with Advance HE, on a project around supporting institutions to monitor the diversity of course reps, we now offer this support to all interested institutions.
We previously provided support to institutions around Gender Action Plans (GAPs), supporting students’ associations to get involved in the design and delivery of their institutional GAP. Working with NUS Scotland, and supported by Equate Scotland and Advance HE (formerly Equality Challenge Unit), we undertook a pilot during 2018 with four colleges and four universities, to develop student engagement in GAPs.
In 2014-15 sparqs was involved in a joint project with sector partners around embedding Equality and Diversity in the curriculum, which resulted in a framework for institutions, produced by HEA Scotland.
