That’s Quality! 2021 events roundup

Over the summer we held our annual induction events for college and university student officers. The focus of both events was the impact of COVID-19 on the quality landscape for education officers. It was fantastic to have so many enthusiastic new and returning student officers attend the online training and we look forward to working with you all over the next year.

Read on for a summary of both events and to access the resources from the days....

That’s Quality! Universities - #sparqsTQU21 - took place online on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th July 2021, via Zoom. We welcomed 35 delegates from 18 universities across Scotland. The event included sessions on the university quality landscape, the Scottish Funding Council Review, and the current Enhancement Theme. We were also pleased to be joined by sector colleagues: Amy Eberlin from QAA Scotland, Matt Crilly from NUS Scotland, Catriona Bell from Advance HE, Kathryn O’Loan from the Scottish Funding Council, Tina Harrison from The University of Edinburgh, and Aoife Keenan from Universities Scotland – who took part in a lively panel Q&A session introducing their agencies and roles to the student officers.

That’s Quality! Colleges – #sparqsTQC21 - took place online on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th August 2021, via Zoom. We welcomed 45 delegates from 19 colleges. During the two days we had sessions on the college quality landscape, strong and effective Students’ Associations, and partnership in action. We were also delighted to be joined by sector colleagues: Kathryn O’Loan from the Scottish Funding Council, John Laird from Education Scotland, Matt Crilly from NUS Scotland, Jim Metcalfe from the College Development Network, Ann Baxter from New College Lanarkshire, and Natalie Webster from Colleges Scotland - all of whom took part in an engaging Q&A panel session introducing their agencies and roles to the student officers.

All attendees were sent an online module that was sent to participants to complete in advance of the training events. The modules provided essential background information on the Scottish college and university sectors, including the impact of COVID-19 on quality over the last few months.
