College Student Leadership and forthcoming Student Board Member Training – 31st October 2014

Attended by 36 student officers from across 15 colleges, sparqs and NUS Scotland recently held the annual “College Student Leadership” event to support college student officers develop and enhance their skills and knowledge to become leaders. It was a successful event, with evaluation stats showing 87% of delegates definitely or very likely to apply learning from the course and that 97% would recommend sparqs/NUS events to colleagues.

The event explored the college sector as it is now, following a few years of significant change and the changing role of students’ associations. They developed their presentation skills, how to make change happen for their students and how to action plan for their year ahead, as well as being a great opportunity for officers to meet with and learn from each other.

A half-day follow up event was held on Friday 31st October 2014, aimed specifically at college student board members, to equip them to be effective college governors. The event was also an opportunity to network with new and returning student board members to learn from each other’s experiences and support one another during the year.

NB: we were originally offering a choice of two dates but the intake planned for 21st October had to be cancelled due to low numbers.
