Student engagement in supported education event - 19th August 2015

sparqs currently offers and delivers Course Rep Training to students in supported education classes in colleges. On Wednesday 19th August 2015 we held a half-day workshop which took participants through the specially designed materials and discussed how best this training can be delivered, and possibly embedded, in the college.

Course Rep Training is only one tool for student engagement and the event explored how students can be involved in wider college quality mechanisms and what changes and support may be needed.

This event was aimed at college teaching and support staff, class rep organisers, student officers and students’ association staff.

By the end of the event participants had:

  • Heard about training available for course reps in supported education and discussed how best to do this.
  • Heard from a college currently delivering course rep training in-house.
  • Explored how to minimise barriers to the wider engagement of supported education students.

The event was held at the sparqs/NUS offices in Edinburgh, beginning at 1.30pm and finishing at 4.30pm. Refreshments were provided and the event was free to attend.
