Reflecting on student engagement at #ETConf20

QAA Scotland’s 4th International Enhancement Conference, which takes place on the 3rd and 4th of June 2020 in Glasgow, is open for registration – and sparqs has contributed two sessions to the programme!

On day 1 of the conference, Senior Development Consultant, Stef Black, will present a paper titled “NSS: I still can't get no satisfaction!”, which will explore a piece of research carried out by sparqs over the last year, looking at different approaches to the National Student Survey and what institutions and students’ associations think has the ability to influence NSS satisfaction scores, in particular within the Student Voice section. The session will explore the feedback gathered from conducting semi-structure informal interviews with staff and students from across UK universities, as well as initial findings as to what practice can have a positive, or a negative, impact.

On day 2, Senior Development Consultant, Simon Varwell, will co-deliver an interactive session with Glasgow School of Art (GSA) about our new Student Engagement Analysis Workshop, titled “Evidence for student engagement: Reflecting on and developing partnership”. This workshop, which aims to generate reflection and action planning on student engagement among an institution’s staff and students, was piloted in 2019 by GSA and led to a number of positive developments within the School. Our session at the conference will introduce the methodology, share how GSA has developed its student engagement as a result of participation, and offer opportunities to reflect on how it might have value in other institutions.

The International Enhancement Conferences always prove to be valuable and interesting events, with attendance from across and beyond Scotland, and we in sparqs look forward to learning and sharing with colleagues from across Scotland, and beyond, in June.
