sparqs' resources for recruiting course reps online

sparqs has been working with institutions and students’ associations to deliver course rep training. Some institutions have struggled this year to fill all course rep positions, especially where recruitment is taking place online, and asked sparqs for help.

We have therefore developed a set of resources to support the recruitment of course reps online, which contains guidance for academics on running an online election, as well as recruitment information to be sent to students about the course rep role.

In addition, there are materials for the course rep to receive once they are in post, which includes a briefing from sparqs containing messages for course reps from Richard Lochhead, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, and Matt Crilly, NUS Scotland President; as well as a template letter that course reps can use to introduce themselves and their role to their classmates.

We would encourage institutions and students’ associations to send all course reps the briefing from sparqs and the template letter, even those who may have been in position for several weeks already.

The resources were sent to students’ association contacts as well as key quality contacts in institutions.  They can be accessed via our Resource Library and COVID-19 information hub, which also contains a wide range of additional resources from across the sector.
