Post Title: Associate Trainer (Apprentices)
Salary: £8.25 an hour
sparqs has employed a team of Associate Trainers since 2005 to deliver Course Rep Training in colleges and universities across Scotland. In the past academic year, our team has trained in excess of 1500 Course Reps, contributing to the overall effectiveness and enhancement of learner engagement in colleges and universities throughout Scotland.
sparqs identified that in order to engage with the growing number of students who are apprentices, there was a need to adopt a different approach. The apprenticeship model means apprentices divide their time between formal education at school, college or university, and on-site learning meaning apprentices often have quite a different educational experience to full-time or part-time students. An Associate Trainer with a specific remit to train apprentices was recruited for this purpose. This year we would like to recruit another Associate Trainer in this area to meet the demands for this training.
As an Associate Trainer (Apprentices) you will be expected to deliver a minimum of 4 training sessions in each semester where demand exists; with up to two sessions being delivered in any one day. You will be offered available training sessions and if your schedule allows then you sign up to those which suit you. Making it a completely flexible and unique opportunity.
Associate Trainers (Apprentices) also have responsibility for completing administrative duties for all training sessions that they deliver and forwarding relevant information to sparqs, including the tallying of student evaluation sheets and the completion of attendance sheets, time sheet and claiming expenses. This is a key element of the role as this data directly feeds into our Outcome Agreement.
You are paid (based on time sheets submitted) for the work that you undertake on the 21st of each month. You are paid for your delivery time and time taken to complete your admin work. Expenses are also fully reimbursed to cover travel to different locations and an expenses travel supplement is also paid.
To be eligible, applicants need to be an apprentice in the coming year, 2017-18, or be a recent graduate apprentice wishing to develop their core skills in presentation, training, group work and facilitation. Ideally, applicants will have had experience in some form of Representative role. The role may appeal to apprentices with existing training experience; it is not essential however. Extensive training is provided at a 3-day mandatory residential training course which runs from the 23rd to the 25th August 2017.
This is a truly unique and exciting opportunity which will develop you personally and your skills. Previous Associate Trainers have commented on the positive influence that the role has had on them, here are just some of their comments:
“what started as a part time job when I was studying for my course has led on to so much more".
"Working as an AT for sparqs for over 3 years enabled me to really develop my skills as a trainer; performing this role led directly on to me becoming a college lecturer".
"The Apprentice AT role is a great job for students as you can fit it round your studies, there are lots of amazing personal development from sparqs and you get paid to meet lots of lovely students".
Applications closed at 12 noon on Wednesday 10th May 2017.
Applicants will be notified as to whether they have been invited for interview in due course. Interviews will take place in Edinburgh on Monday 22nd May 2017.
In order to fulfil the role you must be able to attend the residential training event in Dundee, starting on Wednesday 23rd August and finishing on Friday 25th August 2017.
