Student Involvement in Enhancement Themes

The Scottish higher education Enhancement Themes provide an ideal opportunity for students to shape learning and teaching practices across the sector and use national activities to influence developments in their own institutions and even courses.

sparqs is working with QAA and NUS to help improve the level of engagement of students with the themes. G21C is reaching an end and sparqs will work with students involved to bring together some useful learnings. We will also work to create a model of best practice to support better student engagement in the future.

The precise title of the next Theme is yet to be decided but it is likely to consider how best to structure and deliver higher education learning opportunities, curricula and learner support to meet the needs of the diverse range of 21st century higher education learners and entrants. This will include for example, the use of online, distance and IS supported learning, the range of part time learners and their needs; flexible delivery to meet learner needs etc.

As the new theme emerges there will be opportunities for students to influence the scope of the theme. If we work together to improve student engagement with the themes we can help ensure that they are utilised at a institutional and subject level to bring about changes in practice that benefit students.
