Welcome to our new Trustees!

We are delighted to introduce four new members to the sparqs’ Trustee Board, Beate Treml, Emilia Todorova, Campbell Powrie and Dr Dee Bird. They bring a wide range of expertise and experience to the Board and we look forward to welcoming them to their first Trustee Board meeting at the end of February.

Beate is currently working within the Austrian Higher Education Sector as a Project Co-ordinator at OeAD - Agency for Education and Internationalisation. She is also studying for her Masters in Gender Studies. She has a range of experience at European level and works with EQAR (European Quality Assurance Register) and ESU (European Students’ Union). Beate has interacted with sparqs over the years and demonstrated a clear commitment to its values and approaches.

Emilia is currently the Academic Quality and Learning Manager at the University of Gibraltar. Previous to that, she has held positions in the Scottish and English quality environments and worked as a Quality Enhancement Specialist for QAA Scotland. As a student, Emilia started her career as a sparqs’ Associate Trainer, noting the massive impact the role had on her early career development and shaping her interest in student engagement and quality enhancement. She is looking forward to giving back to sparqs, with the experience and skills she has now developed.

Campbell is the Deputy Registrar and Head of Student Life at Heriot-Watt University, bringing with him significant experience and evidence of judgement and wisdom in a range of complex situations. He is passionate about education and has a commitment to student partnership, playing a lead role in the development and delivery of the University’s Student Partnership Agreement. Campbell’s financial and strategic development experience will be an asset to the Board.

Dee is the Chief Executive Officer at Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association, prior to which she was an Assistant Director (Learning and Quality) at the Scottish Funding Council. She is very well acquainted with the work of sparqs, as well as the work across the wider sector. She brings significant knowledge and skills from this perspective, as well as from her current role, working directly to a Board and managing a small organisation. Dee is also involved in learning and teaching strategy work through her Non-Executive Board Member role at UHI Inverness.

The Trustees, as well as the wider sparqs’ team, look forward to working with Beate, Emilia, Campbell and Dee, and we know that sector colleagues will join us is welcoming them to the role.
