sparqs' new Student Engagement Staff Network (SESN) had its first meeting on Tuesday 19th November 2019, attended by 19 staff from across 14 institutions and NUS Scotland. The network, formerly known as the Academic Representation Coordinators’ network (ARC), aims to draw together staff in student engagement roles in institutions and students’ associations to learn, share and develop as practitioners. The new name reflects the broader scope of the network than simply the development of representation systems and captures the work of staff who support the full range of student engagement activity.
The network’s first meeting took place at Dundee University Students’ Association, and included an update on key sparqs projects, sector practice from the Dundee and Aberdeen Universities and the University of the Highland and Islands, and sector-specific discussions for universities and colleges covering the latest developments in quality.
Save the date for the next two meetings
Future meetings will be held on Wednesday 5th February 2020, at Forth Valley College’s new Falkirk campus, and Tuesday 5th May 2020 at the University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley campus. All staff in student engagement roles are welcome to attend and to submit ideas for content. Please save the dates if you’ve not already done so! Please note that the February date was originally advertised for Tuesday 4th, but we've had to change the date, apologies for any inconvenience caused.
