Initiatives could be within a course or department, where students, reps, staff and managers have collaborated on enhancements to the quality of the learning experience, or might be projects undertaken by staff and students at an institutional or even national level relating to strategic or policy matters that have impacted on the learning experience or engaged students especially impacted by the pandemic.

Closing the Gap with 360 approach to feedback
~ New College Lanarkshire and NCL Students’ Association
This project saw the college and students’ association review the effectiveness of the course representative system and course review system, and using sparqs’ and Education Scotland’s learner engagement toolkit to involve students more deeply in qualitative feedback processes. Building on their new system of class, faculty and curriculum reps, the project saw increased student engagement in course review, new project plans on student engagement, and increased confidence for both staff and students in the process of feedback and engagement.

Dive in to an impactful way to embed, diversity, inclusion, values and equality
~ West Lothian College Students’ Association and West Lothian College
The college’s DIVE group (Diversity, Inclusion, Values and Equalities) saw work through college committees, and staff and student ambassadors to improve equality and access, learn from students’ diverse experiences, and embed equality and inclusion within the learning experience and wider college.

A great example of service design at the college, this project involved workshops that saw the students’ association, college board of management and senior leadership team all collaborate to rethink how they work together to develop the student experience.
