Shaping the Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges: A Workshop for Student Officers and Course Reps (Aberdeen)

Description

This interactive, workshop-based event was aimed at college student officers and course reps to enable them to contribute to the ongoing review of the existing Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges.

The workshop was a really exciting opportunity for students to get directly involved in shaping a key piece of policy that has the potential to influence learning and teaching in Scotland’s college sector for years to come.

The current standards were originally published in 2006 and revised in 2012 and the intention is to modernise them so that they better reflect and promote the advances made in recent years in learning and teaching in Scotland’s colleges.

The workshop harnessed students’ thoughts and priorities on what the new Professional Standards should look like. To broaden the scope of the student voice, we asked student officers to identify an engaged and enthusiastic course rep from their college to accompany them to the workshop.

The event began at 11.00am and finished at 4.00pm. Lunch and refreshments were provided.

In addition to this workshop which took place in Aberdeen on 6th March, there was another one in Edinburgh on 27th February.

The hashtag for both events, for use on Twitter is #sparqsPSL
