Staff Workshop: available now for Autumn staff development days

Our redeveloped staff workshop is now available to all institutions, having been launched by at the sparqs National Conference in March 2011.

Focusing on engaging students in the quality of learning and teaching, the highly interactive and reflective workshop explores the theory and practice of student engagement and how staff can use new tools to enhance their own engagement of students. The workshop explores the engagement of students, including class representatives, through formal and informal mechanisms, and is roughly two hours long.

The workshop is quite adaptable to local needs, so could be used in a variety of ways, for instance:

  • A regular workshop for all new teaching staff
  • An option within staff in-service days or staff development weeks
  • A basis for discussion by certain groups of staff, eg course leaders, course committee chairs, or teams within certain sections or programmes who wish to explore certain aspects of student engagement

Available as often as capacity allows, the workshop is a great way of sparking reflection, discussion and action among staff on how they can share, develop and celebrate excellent practice in involving students in the shaping of quality.
