National Education Officers’ Network meeting

Description

The first meeting of sparqs’ National Education Officers’ Network (NEON) of the 2020/21 academic year took place online on 7th October.. NEON was set up in 2019 in response to feedback from student officers who expressed the need for a national officer network with members from both universities and colleges.

The network is designed to be a space for officers to network and work on issues together in a cross-sector capacity. This events are aimed at student officers with education remits from colleges and universities across Scotland.

This meeting of NEON focused on the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on the Scottish HE and FE sectors as the new academic year begins, and how student officers can continue to support and deliver effective student engagement and representation activity during this time.

Key topics included:

  • The student experience in Semester 1: how is the start of term looking for you? What are the current issues?
  • Update on the Scottish Funding Council Review and the role for student officers.
  • Engaging students in reviews online (ELIR and ILR for universities, the latest updates on quality arrangements for colleges).
