Postgraduate Research Experience Model workshop (for current PGRs)

Description

Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) in Scotland were invited to join sparqs for a conversation around the PGR Experience.  (Note, there is a separate event for staff and sector agencies who support PGRs).

sparqs is undertaking a project to create a model of the Postgraduate Research Experience, akin to the model available for taught students. The model will play a key role in quality enhancement processes across Scotland, and sparqs is keen to ensure the model is representative of the authentic PGR experience.

The event was an interactive workshop designed to capture PGR views on the elements of their research experiences. PGR contributions will directly contribute to the design of the model, including the building blocks and reflective questions.

The event was open to any Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) at any Scottish institution. For those not able to attend the entire duration, we still welcomed participation.

Please note that this workshop is running again, with the same content, on Monday 27th April 2026 (2-5pm).

PGRs in Scotland who cannot attend either date are encouraged to participate through our asynchronous form

Timings and practical details

When registering, delegates were asked to select "Student" as their role; and include their area of research in the "Job Title" field.

The event ran from 2.00-5.00pm, with regular breaks.  It was free to attend and took place online through Microsoft Teams – joining instructions were sent out to delegates prior to the event.

As we were not constrained by venue size, there was no limit to the number of participants. However, we still required all delegate to register, so we knew numbers and in order to keep the event secure.

Delegates were sent a calendar invitation via email and will be sent one follow-up message about the outcomes of the workshops. Please see the sparqs Privacy Policy for more details.
