That's Quality! 2019 events roundup

Over the Summer we held our annual induction events for college and university student officers. The focus of both events was how to use quality to enhance students’ learning and teaching experience. It was fantastic to meet so many enthusiastic new and returning student officers at the events and we look forward to working with you all in the year ahead!

Read on for a summary of both events and to access the resources from the days....

That’s Quality! Universities - #TQ19uni - took place on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th July 2019 at West Park Conference Centre in Dundee. We welcomed 30 delegates from 16 universities across Scotland. The event included sessions on student mental health and wellbeing in learning and teaching, representing the diversity of the student population and understanding and using data. We were also pleased to be joined by QAA Scotland colleagues – Dr Ailsa Crum, who supported a session on what makes a quality student experience, and Dr William Hasty, who delivered a workshop on engaging with the Enhancement Theme Student-led Project.

That’s Quality! Colleges - #TQ19college - took place on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th August 2019 at West Park Conference Centre in Dundee. We welcomed 32 delegates from across 14 colleges. During the two days we had sessions on How Good is Our College?, student mental health and wellbeing in learning and teaching and understanding and using data. We were also delighted to be joined by representatives from our partner agencies: the Scottish Funding Council, Education Scotland, NUS Scotland, the College Development Network and Colleges Scotland.

This year we piloted a new mandatory online module that was sent to participants to complete in advance of the training events. The module provided essential background information on quality and the Scottish college and university sectors.

The materials and resources from the events, including the agendas, presentations, useful quality handbooks for each sector and other relevant sector resources are available via the links below:

In addition, we have adapted the quality handbooks from both events to enable them to be used more widely and would encourage all staff and students interested in quality to have a look at them, accessible via the sparqs website and Resource Library:

Students’ Associations – please circulate to any student reps the handbook may be of use to, e.g. student officers and lead reps.

Please contact Hannah Clarke, Senior Development Consultant – hannah.clarke@sparqs.ac.uk for further information about either of these events.
