Readers of sparqs news articles will be familiar with our longstanding 'Talking Student Engagement' interview series, launched over a decade ago in 2014. sparqs is now taking these interviews in an exciting new direction under a new name…
Our newly relaunched 'Talking Student Partnership' interview series will feature video conversations with experts from across the Scottish tertiary sector. In our visits with students, institutional staff, students’ association staff, and other student partnership experts, we’ll have the chance to discuss good practices and reflect on key topics within learning, teaching, and the student experience. You’re invited to follow along and watch the video interviews.
The first interview in our series features Jay Brown, President of Academic Life at Queen Margaret University Students’ Union in Edinburgh. In our interview, Jay reflects on his past two years as President and talks us through topics such as:
- Changing learner needs.
- Neurodiversity and disability.
- Their #1 in Scotland National Student Survey ranking for representing students’ academic interests.
- Their unique approach to gatherings of their course representatives.
- An exchange on student partnership with Radboud University in the Netherlands.
View the video interview below (filmed with Jay in late April 2025 and published in May 2025).
