Our thanks to Sir Andrew Cubie as he plans to step down as Chair

After almost seven years as Chair of the sparqs Trustee Board, Sir Andrew Cubie has decided to step down, as he approaches his 80th birthday. Sir Andrew will be greatly missed by the whole of the staff team and by our many colleagues across the sector who have had the pleasure of working with him.

Sir Andrew has led us through some difficult and exciting times.  He provided much wisdom and support during the COVID times, even joining a couple of online parties, and has helped steer us successfully through the significant changes and opportunities the development of the new Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework afforded sparqs.

Any of you who have met him, will know that he has been as busy in his ‘retirement’ as many of us might be at the peak of our careers, but he has assured us that he is going to start to take things a little easier.  We will be forever grateful for everything he has done to support sparqs – he will be a difficult act to follow.

While we are finding it hard to contemplate a time without him, we will soon need to turn our attention to finding a new Chair and we will announce plans shortly.  Sir Andrew will stay in post until we find his successor.  His commitment to the cause of sparqs and the team remains undiminished! But for now, thank you Sir Andrew, for everything.
